A straight flush is 5 consecutive cards of the same suit, i.e. 8, 9, 10, J, Q of diamonds or 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 of hearts, etc. When the cards are ordered 10 through Ace, a straight flush becomes a royal flush.

Four of a Kind

A four of a kind hand consists of 4 cards of the same rank, i.e. four 8′s, four queens, etc. The fifth card in your hand is irrelevant; a tie-breaking high card is not needed for this hand because it’s not possible for two players to have the same 4 of a kind.

Full House

A full house uses all 5 cards in your hand, it is made up of a three of a kind and a pair. For example, 6, 6, 7, 3, 3 is a full house, as is Q, Q, Q, K, K.

Flush

A flush is any 5 cards of the same suit. For example, 5, 7, 10, Q, A of clubs. They do not need to be ordered because ordered cards of the same suit would be a straight flush.

Straight

A straight is 5 cards in order. i.e. 3, 4, 5, 6, 7 or 8, 9, 10, J, Q. The suits are irrelevant to the hand, if all 5 cards are of the same suit the straight becomes a straight flush.

Three of a Kind

Three of a kind is exactly as it sounds, 3 cards of the same rank, i.e. 4, 4, 4, 7, J or Q, Q, Q, 3, 8.

Two Pair

As the very name of the hand implies, two pair is two different pairs of cards in your five card hand. In the event another player has the same two-pair, the 5th card in your hand will determine the winner.

Pair

A pair is two cards of the same rank in your hand. For example, two jacks, two 10′s, etc.

High Card

You have nothing, if you don’t hold any of the above poker hands with your cards If other remaining players do not have a true ‘hand’ either, whoever has the highest card in their hand wins; with an Ace being the highest and 2 being the lowest. If two or more players have the same high card, the second highest card determines who wins, then the 3rd, etc.
